Children's books that make you feel :?

Post by Twoflower » Tue Oct 23, 2012 9:14 pm

I am doing my dissertation on the decline of quality in Children's Literature and while doing research I have been enjoying wandering down memory lane with some of the books like Dr. Seuss. However there is one book that keeps showing up during my research that I have never liked and that has given me the creeps and made me feel very :?
Here it is
Trigger Warning!!!1! :
It is to me one of the creepiest, and horrible books ever written for children and even seeing it makes me feel icky.

What is your least favorite or more disturbing children's book?
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

When I was very little, there was a Little Golden book about a sheepdog. On one page, it had a picture of a slavering wolf with glowing red eyes...

It gave me nightmares for ages...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!

I don't get what's wrong with the book in the OP :dunno:

It's towards the end where the mother drives to the son's house, uses a ladder to climb into his bedroom and rocks him while he sleeps.

He was married and lived in his own house. She had to drive across town to break into his bedroom, it shows a very unhealthy mother son relationship to me.

In the end of the book he is an adult. The books starts at his birth and goes through his life until the crazy mom dies.

Jesus Christ
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Your mom breaks into your flat to rock you to sleep?

Maybe it's not meant to be taken literally but rather symbolically? But symbolic of what, I couldn't say :?

I have considered that, but even symbolically it's portrayed in a pretty creepy way.
