Richard Dawkins - Sex, Death and the Meaning of Life

Post by Red Celt » Tue Oct 16, 2012 10:04 am

This is the latest series by Richard Dawkins. It started last night, but I missed it - and hoped to catch it on 4oD. But it isn't available on 4oD, damnit... but it is available on YouTube. Strange.

If you can't watch it in your country, perhaps someone can post some helpful advice on how you can get past that country-block.

Shit! The the only trouble with not having a TV I miss the very rare gems. Oh and your link is not working.

Removed by the user... FFS.

Oh, well. Sorry about raising false hopes. I guess that I was lucky enough to see it before they realised that it wasn't meant to be available on 4oD.

What channel?
Never heard of 4oD. Is it on Sky?

The UK's Channel 4 has a streaming service called 4oD (4 on Demand). Usually, pretty much all programmes are available to watch there after they've been broadcast. Due to resale rights, the 3rd party producers have made sure that this Dawkins 2-parter isn't available on 4oD. Nor, as they later realised, the 4oD channel on YouTube (which is what I linked to).

The 2nd part is being broadcast on Channel 4 on Monday. 10pm GMT+1, afaik. You might be able to catch it on a streaming site, such as tvcatchup.

And I have no idea if it will be on Sky. I don't do Sky. Never have, never will. It's the property of Rupert Murdoch and (since the 1980s) a sub-mission of my life has been to make sure that that poisonous cunt gets as little of my money as I can possibly manage.

You have every right to be smug for not living in Basingstoke, where there is no terrestrial TV signal, and where broadband internet only arrived last year. :bored:
However, Sky does inclure Channel 4 in its offerings...
Monday Channel 4:
09:00 pm - 999:What's your Emergency?
10:00 pm - 8 Out of 10 Cats
10:50 pm - Comedy World Cup
:bored:

Are you on some weird Scottish Channel 4 or something? Like the Welsh have their own incomprehensible channels?

The actual broadcast was on More4, not Channel 4, and can be watched on 4OD. I expect you need to be in the UK though, unless you know a workaround.

As DaveD pointed out, it was More4 not Channel4.

I wasn't trying to be smug. I'll sometimes pick the smiley based on how it looks, rather than what it is meant to portray. The smug smiley also looks rather bemused/resigned/apathetic. :smug:

Basingstoke doesn't have terrestrial? That's the Basingstoke just off the M3? You can almost see London from there. I stayed in a Basingstoke hotel for a week... it had reception. Perhaps you're in a mini-valley where the outside is blocked-out. Even then, my hatred of Murdoch would see me go without a TV rather than subscribe to Sky.
