Re: Derail: PZ Myers on Decent Humans and Getting Laid
Interesting recounting by Skepchick of the elevator incident here: http://bloggingheads.tv/diavlogs/37611? ... &out=48:16 It's at about 37 minutes in.
She mentions that the ENTIRE topic of her speech at that panel discussion where she was sitting with Dawkins and AronRa was about the "sexual feedback she gets." Note - it was not about how she doesn't like to get hit on, and it was not about being objectified or treated a certain way by "the skeptic community" at conferences.
She says that the topic of conversation at the bar for several hours was sexism and that the group was really good and participated and asked questions - it was a really great environment, she said. At 4am she left the environment and went to the elevator. Elevator Guy "caught up with me" and got onto the elevator. Skepchick confirms that the guy was "in the group that was at the bar" but she hadn't spoken to him "directly." Directly.
Some details about Elevator Guy - she guesses he was maybe in his early 50's. Not overly large, but bigger than Skepchick. Skepchick claims to have "face blindness" and so she's "not really good at describing people later." LOL Skepchick is asked if she can read expressions on a face, but Skepchick claims she can do that. She has face blindness, though. She claims she has prosopagnosia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosopagnosia "a disorder of face perception where the ability to recognize faces is impaired, while the ability to recognize other objects may be relatively intact."

LOLz!!! http://wn.com/Up_Drunk_Personal_with_Rebecca_Watson
Drunk Rebecca Watson being interviewed by Ashley Paramore --- "Skepchick began as a nudie calendar..."
7:30 -- we don't get a lot of hate mail....except from men on feminist topics, who think women shouldn't have a voice.
http://wn.com/Up_Drunk_Personal_with_Rebecca_Watson - LOL 12:30 - Watson gets into how feminism as just all about "equality" and "equal treatment" but then refers to how something is not a proper way to "treat a woman." You know, it's "treat a person" if it's anything at all, isn't it Watson? And, she says that "criticizing a woman for the way she dresses is a huge part of that?" No it isn't, actually. Men often get criticized for the way they dress. So, it's either that criticizing PEOPLE, not just women, for the way they dress is wrong, or it isn't. If you want to call yourself a feminist and out for "equality" only, then this whole idea of placing women on a pedestal to receive special treatment and be free from criticism where men are not free from criticism is not the way to do it.
How many times are "rape trials unnecessarily complicated?" Is this Skepchick pontificating on another area where she as zero background or experience? The law? How many rape trials have you actually gone and watched? How many rape trials have you participated in? How many, Skepchick? Or, are you just speaking off the cuff, assuming that rape trials are unnecessarily complicated because of how women dress or other criticisms of women? Frankly, there are extraordinary protections for rape victims (accusers) in the justice system - their names can't be disclosed in the media whereas the accused has no such protection. The woman's sexual history and manner of dress are almost always excluded from evidence by the rules of evidence, to keep from prejudicing the jury against her. The "she's a slut" defense has not been part of American rape trials for several decades. But, the "skepchick" knows that many rape trials are unnecessarily complicated. In what way, Skepchick? Let's here your evidence - or, do you just believe things without thinking critically and requiring evidence for them?
At 14 minutes, they talk about how at dragoncon, women are walking around practically naked - that's "cool" according to skepchick. Isn't she worried that the women might be "sexualized" in some manner? LOL
At ten seconds in - "there's not a single thing that would embarrass me." Rebecca Watson.

http://skepchick.org/author/rebecca/page/136/ LOLz!!! If you click on that link, there is a hyperlink under the words "Darwinian pick-up line t-shirts" which is supposed to take us to images of all the t-shirts. I clicked on the link and it ultimately directs you back to www.skepchick.org - apparently, the page with the "pick-up line t-shirts" has been eliminated.Third, I nearly forgot to mention that I received my Darwinian pick-up line t-shirts! Sweeeeeeet. Also, Azinyk’s belated valentine for having the winning entry will shortly be to its destination!
I wonder if she is concerned at all that wearing this t-shirt might be perceived as creepy, and make some people uncomfortable. After all, everyone has the right to set their own boundaries, and being confronted by this kind of lewd suggestion might very well make certain folks very uncomfortable. I'm sure there are some devout Christians and Muslims that would be very uncomfortable. Fuck them, though.

Mormons might have a point if this universe does contain a God...then God would be a space alien. Very unlikely Mormons are interesting enough for him to give a toss about though...

What will the world be like after its ruler is removed?
