Getting now. Thanks. I've learned to trust your judgment, more or less.Animavore wrote:![]()
Ralph Fiennes directs and stars in this modern adaptation of Shakespeare's lesser-known play. The cast is great, including Venessa Redgrave, Brian Cox and James Nesbit, and Shakespeare proves his flair for English is almostthe language unmatched to this day (Joyce and Milton are exceptions) as line after brilliant line flow from the lips like silk from a silkworm's arse.
The setting is contemporous with modern warfareGerald Butler, and the tale of a patriot abandoned and betrayed by his government still seems relevant today. Never before have I seen Shakespeare so exciting.
It's worth watching to see news anchor, Jon Snow, deliver the bards poetic lines while giving interview alone.

I think it's the film they forced Alex to watch in A Clockwork Orange.

Hysterically bad, and quite outrageously laden with plot holes. Hundreds of gods fought the Titans the first time around, but only five could be mustered for the second battle. But the third one, forecast by the son, again has hundreds of gods. (And an implied threat of a sequel.)

Maybe it's because I just watched Immortals but I quite enjoyed new Conan the Barbarian.

Prometheus.
Visually stunning. I felt the film was let down a little by the cast.

I haven't seen a good movie in ages. What's out now that might be worth watching?

MiM and I just watched Star Trek (2009) with the kids. The 8.0 average on IMDB was well deserved, IMO.
But then again, I would love this film just out of principle, for having Randy Pausch in it http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2903501/bio

I found this Star Trek to be marginally less annoying than the others.Ronja wrote:MiM and I just watched Star Trek (2009) with the kids. The 8.0 average on IMDB was well deserved, IMO.

You've heard the next one is due out in 2013?

Cannot agree with the imdb 8.0, much because of the juvenile cast, but it had a lot of necessary movie puns, so it was ok.

Just watched Frost/Nixon last night. A fine movie. Worth watching - even if just for Frank Langella's performance as Nixon. Extraordinary. Not an impression; he doesn't mimic. But Nixon's weird, deep discomfort inside his own skin: Langella fucking nailed it.
I think that language has a lot to do with interfering in our relationship to direct experience. A simple thing like metaphor will allows you to go to a place and say 'this is like that'. Well, this isn't like that. This is like this.
