Is an overprotective environment actually less attractive to a lot of women than one where possibly sexist attitudes are out in the open to be argued for and against with some civility?

It is to me. I don't like to hang out in environments where there's some sort of preordained way that I have to think, speak and act that's based on me having a vadge. All those strict rules and harassment policies that suggest I can't determine for myself when I've been complimented and when I've been insulted, and that I can't respond to either without the overbearing helicopter parents to swoop in and deal with it for me are extremely off-putting.

That stuff usually comes part-and-parcel with any group that is self applying the feminist label, and in my experience has since before the www revolution. It's why I ultimately quit (and quit joining) groups with 'women,' 'ladies', 'female', or 'ette' in the name.
