I'm contemplating going to see Roger Waters perform The Wall in July. I think I should...

Last night I went looking for a Youtube for Roger Waters' "It's a Miracle" for to stick in a thread somewhere and I stumbled upon The Great Gig in the Sky and It moved me to tears somehow. It was the first time I ever had a strong emotional reaction to that song.

Then I got to poking around Youtube and found this:

So, she just made up her part on the spot. Great composing I think.

BTW: here's my current fave version of that song:

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I remember once seeing a picture of them which was had a caption along the lines of "... Pink Floyd, during the great barber's strike of 1972". :hehe:

That was in the NME during the late eighties, I'm almost certain. I recall that myself.

Huh? Errm "Come at be bro" or something?

I didn't mean the picture, KLR's comment.

Lately I've been interested in the histories of a select few old groups:

"A philosopher is a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn't there. A theologian is the man who finds it." ~ H. L. Mencken

"We ain't a sharp species. We kill each other over arguments about what happens when you die, then fail to see the fucking irony in that."

"It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favor of vegetarianism while the wolf remains of a different opinion."

I found it was Alan Parsons that ruined Dark Side for me with the addition of the orgasm singing by Torry
As the band began casting around for a singer, album engineer Alan Parsons suggested Clare Torry, a 25-year-old songwriter and session vocalist.
In 2004, Torry sued Pink Floyd and EMI for songwriting royalties, on the basis that her contribution to "Great Gig in the Sky" constituted co-authorship with Richard Wright. Originally, she was paid the standard Sunday flat studio rate of £30. In 2005, a settlement was reached in High Court in Torry's favour, although terms were not disclosed.[12] Thus, all pressings after 2005 list the composition to Richard Wright and Clare Torry.
