Please start speaking honest then, instead of META, so that we can dicuss the real issues.Graculus wrote:I'm not easily run off.hadespussercats wrote: Maybe you could stick around. You'd be whiney too if you had ass on your titties and were a baby. "Whiney Ass Titty Baby"Yes I kind of like that. Everyone needs to whine, once in a while.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

The ones most like to not listen to opposing viewpoints are Skepchicks. If they joined here, you'd find their viewpoints freely expressed, but they would accuse this forum of being misogynistic for allowing people to "gaslight" them by telling them that they're wrong and explaining why...Graculus wrote:Do you really think the parties in question are willing to listen to opposing viewpoints? Re: How do we attract Skepchicks to sign up here?
Some folks here are hateful and nasty sometimes. Most people have gotten a little nasty now and again, and most people have screwed up and said some impertinent things. It's the rare person who never makes such mistakes. To suggest than an entire forum is hateful and nasty simply because it allows individuals to post what some consider to be hateful and nasty topics or opinions doesn't make very much rational sense.maiforpeace wrote:By not having a Wilder Web forum dominated by hateful and derogatory thread titles maybe?
How unfair for people to assume that we are hateful and nasty.
I mean, we have freedom of speech and the press generally, but the fact that the Nazis have as much right to march down main street carrying signs as the Occupy movement doesn't make the country a "hateful and nasty" country. It just means that some people are hateful and nasty, which is the reality whether or not they're allowed to march down mainstreet or not. The same goes for a relatively open forum. People post here. Some of those posts are going to be by persons we don't like. Some folks here have not only expressed, say, racist viewpoints, but at least one person says "damn right I'm a racist." The forum is better for such tolerance. Such folks can post, but their posts are answered with vigor.
And, I take issue with your description of the Wilder Web as dominated by hateful and derogatory thread titles. I just checked that forum and read through the entire first page of threads. None are "hateful" and only two could be considered derogatory, I think. Two "parody" threads about PZ Myers, one calling him a racist and the other calling him a "kitten murder advocate." Clearly, those are attempts at humor.

Curious indeed, but as we're not a big forum, the statistics are accordingly not that reliable.
They might still be right though.

The US Ratz meets have had either an equal male to female ratio or females outnumbering males. I know that isn't a scientifically sound sample but still...
