This forum needs a new(old) game so, how about this one?
One person posts a premise, anyone interested posts what they think would have been the most likely outcome, and then we all argue about it and never speak to each other again.
An easy one to start: What if the USA had received 24 hours advance notice of the impending attack on Pearl harbour?

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

They would have let it happen anyway because they wanted a reason to go to war.

No, first you post your theory, then we have the argument.

Ok,
What if Caesar hadn't been assasinated?
I'd say that Rome would have either never become an empire, or it would have at least been put off for a few years.

You would need a lot of ointment.
What if Hitler had given Dönitz the extra years to prepare and total amount of U-boats as he requested before the start of WW2?

The US would have been drawn into the war sooner as the sinking rates soared.

What If?: Military Historians Imagine What Might Have Been (ed. Robert Cowley)

... and guess what

, there's a Vol. 2 as well:
More What If?: Eminent Historians Imagine What Might Have Been?
http://www.amazon.com/More-What-If-Emin ... pd_sim_b_3
I have both, but I can't recall the contents off the top of my head. I might give a run-down of the contents this evening when I get a chance to look at them.
