I think it would be great. I assume there must be a silent majority of them who aren't crazy.Robert_S wrote:The picture of them we've been getting from some of our regular posters is a bit one-sided. I think we'd benefit from a wider range of viewpoints on gender issues.
Also, there has to be more to them than just their stance on feminism. For me, this site is actually more of a fun community than a serious debate place. There is the occasional drama and very occasional gross stupidity, but overall we are a very accepting and welcoming bunch.

Back to Skepchicks etc.
I post things here that I borrow from Amazon. I'm breaking their rules, but all the posts are public. I never copy from members only areas here. Nor people's personal blogs.
Just stuff I learned to follow in 15 years. I'm not beyond making a parody, though.

How much have you listened to or read without prompting from one side or the other in the skepti-feminism debate thing?Pappa wrote:I think it would be great. ETA: By that, I pretty much mean: have you looked at something ant of them wrote that wasn't linked from a CES thread.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

After Elevatorgate I spent some time lurking at Skepchicks, it was all cut from the same cloth. Lots of outrage, lots of male bashing. All pretty juvenile, IMO.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Just invite them to read this thread. Yeah, sure, you're a "welcoming" bunch. After the OP, it's just more sneering.Robert_S wrote:The picture of them we've been getting from some of our regular posters is a bit one-sided. I think we'd benefit from a wider range of viewpoints on gender issues.

Or you could try a provocative and inviting question, like "Would it be immoral to rape you?"

Re: How do we attract Skepchicks to sign up here?
Poor PZ, not getting enough drama from us.
Re: How do we attract Skepchicks to sign up here?
Here's the thing PZ - we would react to that with joking and a certain WTF attitude towards to questioner. I don't think anyone here would launch a hysterical hate campaign.pzmyers wrote:Just invite them to read this thread. Yeah, sure, you're a "welcoming" bunch. Here's how I would answer the question:
