'cos describing genocidal expansionism in terms like "regrettable" just don't cut the mustard.
I can see that you have not fully understood Japan's true intentions in this matter. /Kurusu.

C'mon... Japan invading Korea was a failed move of Hideyoshi's, that lasted for the last 6 years of his life and was stopped as soon as the Daimyo started quarreling over who would be in charge while the heir grew up (or instead of the heir, as ieyasu showed us) ... after that, they resumed the effort only after stopping the Russian efforts at dominating the place in 1905 and took over the role of protective Big Brother until 1945.

The Spirit of Yamato is a good case of nationalism gone amok, IMHO.

No country admits it did anything wrong. Have we appoligised for Dresden or America for Nagasaki? National pride is still about. And it is worse with island peoples who have a natural sense of nationality bounded by a clear cut waterboard. :smoke:

It's easy for a country to admit it did something wrong. All you have to do is have an administration change so they can blame everything on the "other guys".

National identity is pretty fluid through history...the further away a atrocity is in time the easier it is to say sorry. :smoke:

I didn't know Dresden was made of wood myself until I read about. It is understandable in a time before a detailed understanding of wildfires that we wouldn't know the whole thing would go up like a woodpile. :smoke:

Yeah, the study of "what the fuck happened at Dresden" actually kicked off that field of study.
