I'm a Mormon, Not a Christian

duh!
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/13/opini ... .html?_r=1

Oh, one reader explains it:
"In the US, "Christian" is used to mean "Protestant", or even "Evangelical"; Catholics are usually called "Catholic". That is probably the source of the scuffle- "Christian" to Mormons means Christ-centered believer who tries to live as they think Christ would want, whereas to most US Protestant Christians, Christian means "someone like us", which Mormons aren't, quite.Christianity, the Jesus-centric redemption-centered belief system, includes Mormonism, but Christianity the socio-historical group/club may not."

This comment is great:
Walking across a bridge one day, a man saw another man standing
on the edge, about to jump off, ran over and said "Stop!
don't do it!"

"Why shouldn't I?"

"Well, there's so much to live for!"

"Like what? I'm not married, I have no job..."

"Well... are you religious or atheist?"

"Religious."

"Me too! Are you Christian, Buddhist...?"

"Christian."

"Me too! Are you catholic or protestant?"

"Protestant."

"Me too! Are you episcopalian or baptist?"

"Baptist"

"Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist church of god, or
Baptist church of the lord?"

"Baptist church of god!"

"Me too! Are you original Baptist church of god,
or are you reformed Baptist church of god?"

"Reformed Baptist church of god"

"Me too! Are you reformed Baptist church of god,
reformation of 1879, or reformed baptist church of god,
reformation of 1915?"

"Reformed Baptist church of god, reformation of 1915"

"Die, heretic scum!", the man said, and pushed him off.

_____

To many of us, listening to people debate which cult they belong to often sounds roughly like this.
Especially since all the other comments (on the first page) are exactly this.

Let's see Mitt Romney saying that in public then over the next few months.
God has no place within these walls, just like facts have no place within organized religion. - Superintendent Chalmers

It's not up to us to choose which laws we want to obey. If it were, I'd kill everyone who looked at me cock-eyed! - Rex Banner

The Bluebird of Happiness long absent from his life, Ned is visited by the Chicken of Depression. - Gary Larson

By we, you mean an all-american loony invented it.
That is something the US excels at. I think it's a real shame that Charlie Manson went on his murder spree.
He could have had his own religion by now.

Pray, do not mock me: I am a very foolish fond old man; And, to deal plainly, I fear I am not in my perfect mind.

Blah blah blah blah blah!

Memo to self: no Lir chocolates.

That's what we've been saying all along... mormons are completely beyond the pale of chretinity... they hold any number of beliefs as dogma that are simply not compatible with christianity... it's not just a matter of denying trinitarianism and the Nicene creed.... in ways, refusing the triune nature of Dog (a belief I never could really get around myself) is the least of their errors.
