It's just a way of being dismissive.

What's wrong with different people having different taste? Why do you feel so judged for not liking classical music? Who cares if you like it or not?
Have you never heard the expression highbrow? Or sophisticated taste in music? I'm talking about the snob value of classical music.
People feel that having a taste for classical music is somehow "cultured".
That makes you "uncultured" if you don't like it.

It may not mean that to you, but that's how it's treated in general useage, and in the media.

And I've observed many people trying to impress others, by professing a love of classical music.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

I love some rock 'n roll. I love some blues. I love some punk. I love some country. Most of all, though, I love some classical (in the sense you use it) music. Does that make me highbrow or cultured?

Do you make obscure references to extremely trivial details and then sneer at people who "don't get it"? If not, then you're not a music snob, no.

Look, mate, it's not really up to you to say what is obscure or what is trivial. The fact that it was Wanda Landowska who single-handedly resurrected J. S. Bach from 150 years of obscurity might be obscure and/or trivial to many, but... Oh, why do I even bother. You're never going to get it.

Shoot a fellow Back lover and Landowska admirer, and you will be next to get lead.

You'd probably miss due to shooting over your shoulder as you fled for your life.

If Annie Oakley could, so can I... especially if my life depends on it, I can't let you have a shot at me.

Threatening violence now?

That's just typical of Philistines like you. You have no knowledge of the finer things in life, things that define everything of beauty and excellence in civilisations. I bet you don't even know that Ivlad N. Chalnikov got the secondary theme for his third string quartet with washboard by listening to his budgerigar hopping around on his piano. What's your contribution? Oh yes, that's right - you threaten to shoot me. Me, the bringer of light. Shame on you!

Witty factoids still won't make a soulage painting worth looking at, or make it worth my while to listen to stuff Boulez tried to pass off for music.

Most modern art is conceptual art to a greater or lesser degree. Comparing modern art to traditional art is like comparing apples and oranges because of this. Very often modern art is about the beauty or creativity of the idea that went into the work rather than the visual beauty of a traditional piece.
