New Star Trek film looks incredible!

It was the first SciFi action film to take special effects seriously, IMHO. It deserves a "milestone" rank. I had been into scifi for *mumble* years before it came out, and was always disappointed with the FX in the movies. ("2001" was an FX movie set in space, and monumentally boring.) It certainly wasn't the "Greatest Film Ever", but it was the best we had at the time.

Oh of course.. and just think if George Lucas ha got the Flash gordon gig it would never have been made. But it came on the back of Star Trek too..

incidentally, Star wars was the fist film I was ever taken to see, although rememebr nothing about it.. the first film i remember seeing was Superman.. which for some reason made me cry my eyes out, I remember coming out of the cinema in floods of tears..

... and another thing that annoyed me. Why was there a kick back off the lasers the way there is off a handgun? Fucking ridiculous if you ask me. Firing a laser should be no different to turning a light switch on and off

And is it really more absurd than the bridge sparking up and shaking and having steam shoot out from the corners every time there's a major fight between two ships? If they can make an FTL drive then they should be able to include dampening and redundancy systems in THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE SHIP to stop that from happening.

There have been a couple that showed the effect rather well, I thought, but they weren't very successful.

Yeah, true. But getting impacts from debris will ring your bell. The "go booms" in "Serenity" were done well. (The second trip through Reaver space.)
