these are things we think we know
these are feelings we might even share
these are thoughts we hide from ourselves
these are secrets we cannot lay bare.

No, but I wasn't referring to everyone who disagrees with me.Thumpalumpacus wrote:Do you think everyone who disagrees with you should agree with each other?Coito ergo sum wrote:Do you people listen to yourselves?

Re: Anne Romney Hasn't Worked A Day in Her Life
this thread is not about Obamacare. And probably your shit don't stink. The question was, did you support it before you knew the details of who would get government assistance? That's the point. I'd bet you did.
And, I bet any number of Democrat proposals would meet your approval before you knew exactly where the cut-off would be.

So you believe everything Romney says, I bet.No less than when any candidate -- ANY candidate -- makes their campaign proposals.

I believe that he said what he said, and if he doesn't follow through with it, or doesn't at least put his proposal before Congress, then he will have shown himself to have broken a campaign promise.kiki5711 wrote:So you believe everything Romney says, I bet.No less than when any candidate -- ANY candidate -- makes their campaign proposals.
I can't predict the future, but I don't pretend to know what a candidate is or is not lying about. I took Obama at his word when he said what he wanted to do to. I didn't oppose him because I thought I knew which promises were lies. I opposed him because I disagreed with what he said he wanted to do.

LOL - I know it's not. But, try to think hard on this. The point was not to talk about Obamacare specifically. That was just an example of something I am positive you supported, which I am also positive you had no idea how it actually worked, let alone who would actually get government assistance for their purchase of health insurance mandated by the law.kiki5711 wrote:this thread is not about Obamacare. It illustrates the vapid and vacuous nature of your objection to the what Romney said he wanted. You object because you think it can't cover ALL working moms, and then you object because he didn't announce where the cut-off for assistance would be. Yet, for some reason, Romney's proposal is the only public assistance type proposal you care to apply that standard to.

Re: Anne Romney Hasn't Worked A Day in Her Life
That's not true. It's in all public assistance that regulations and household income is evaluated. On top of it it's "gross income" that's taken in to account, not "net" income. That's for all and any public assistance.Yet, for some reason, Romney's proposal is the only public assistance type proposal you care to apply that standard to.
Let's say a single mother finds a job for $10 an hour. $400 a week. Now let's say the cut off for getting assistance is $399.00. One dollar less. That mother will not qualify. So, she finds it extremely difficult to live on $400 a week with no assistance, and is basically better off not working and getting "full assistance".
It's a no win situation, unless she finds a second job to pay the bills, in which case she barely sees her kid and barely has any energy left to do anything else, but work.
I am interested what kind of "figures in dollars" has Romney in mind. Does he even know what the standard is at present?

Wow...I mean... wow.. are you kidding? Reread what I wrote. The standard that you don't apply to other proposed government assistance program is that of knowing where the cutoff is. You lambaste Romney's proposal because it doesn't cover all, and because he doesn't state the exact cutoff. But, you supported other programs, like Obamacare without knowing the details.kiki5711 wrote:That's not true. It's in all public assistance that regulations and household income is evaluated. I can't say it any clearer. Of course all public assistance has limits. Where the heck did you get the idea I said otherwise?
Romney's proposal is that working mothers will be afforded assistance so that they can get day care for their kids while they work.kiki5711 wrote:

You just illustrated why Romney's proposal makes some sense, since it provides an incentive to get out of the welfare trap.
I am interested in the figures and dollars too. The standard currently differs from state to state, so I'm sure he doesn't know all the standards.kiki5711 wrote: It's a no win situation, unless she finds a second job to pay the bills, in which case she barely sees her kid and barely has any energy left to do anything else, but work.

As for working, hardly seeing one's kids, and having little energy to do anything else. Welcome to equality, missy. Men have carried that yoke for millenia.

What is it with you and my opinion or lack thereof about Obamacare. I don't even remember ever commenting on it.

And how exactly is he going to do that? Until I see the actual proposal and figures, it will be no different than it is now. It just sounds good for getting votes as far as I'm concerned.Romney's proposal is that working mothers will be afforded assistance so that they can get day care for their kids while they work.

Because if you supported it without knowing the cut-off for government support for medical coverage, then it would seem incongruous of you to object to Romney's proposal without knowing the cut off.

Fair enough. I hope you apply the same standard to every politician.kiki5711 wrote:And how exactly is he going to do that? I already told you I don't know the specifics of Obamacare, and it's a different subject than child care.

Well, he's the only one talking about it, so how can I apply it to anyone else?

So, since you don't know the specifics, do you oppose it, pending learning the details?kiki5711 wrote:Coito ergo sum wrote:kiki5711 wrote:But, you supported other programs, like Obamacare without knowing the details.

If you support it, even without the details, then what is different about it?
