Nepalese woman accused of witchcraft and burned alive

Kathmandu, Nepal (CNN) -- A 40-year-old mother of two was burned alive in central Nepal after she was accused of being a witch, police said Saturday.

Dhegani Mahato was attacked and set on fire by family members and others after a shaman allegedly accused her of casting a spell to make one of her relatives sick, Police Officer Hira Mani Baral said.
This is why there has to be a constant pushback against superstition, belief, and 'faith'. Once the door is opened to any sort of woo, it's just a matter of degree as to how far bad it can go. Organized religions of all stripes provide cover for this sort of extremism to even exist.

I disagree. There needs to be a constant pushback, not against religion and superstition, but against vigilantees burning people alive.

People have been lynched for the color of their skin. You're attacking religion because it's convenient, when you should be attacking ignorance and poverty. But those aren't so easy targets....

One big difference though.
We don't indoctrinate our children with ignorance and poverty.

We have the cure for religion, just stop imposing it on children. No effort needed whatsoever. Just stop doing something stupid.

Curing ignorance and poverty on the other hand needs a gigantic amount of money and effort.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

Why can't we do both?

I attack religion at every chance.

That's why Baby Jesus lets bad things happen. :mod:
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."
