I'd never give a puter to goodwill without thorougly formatting the HD first, and while she might have the savvy to do that, I doubt he does, or the brains to tell her to.
That's the point, 'doof. Her computer with all her shit on it goes to some stranger. Sexting pix, saved email, address book, all gone.
You guys should watch the video. Dad works in IT, and spent all day the day before installing new software and updating her laptop-- why he had the opportunity to check out her FB in the first place.

He may be a hick with a stutter. That doesn't make him stupid.
I ignored the part about the formatting, I knew better, having watched several minutes of the video. :read:

I'm glad my parents didn't teach me that. I probably would have been miserable. My parents taught me that life ain't perfect, and sometimes you don't get everything you want, but if you're kind to people, and you work hard, and you contribute to the world, life will usually reward you.

I like Warren's idea, personally. Maybe I'll use it when I have children. Sounds like a good way to prevent your kids from becoming socialists. :chuckle:

That made it impossible for me to catch that point, though.
If you gonna post stuff for all the internet to see, it can be important that what you say be understandable.

Every time I want to retire a device the first thing my son wants to know is can we take it out to the range and shoot the shit out of it? And he is so excited.

All I can think about is having to clean up afterwards, so I say "no".
Maybe we should just take them to the range and shoot the shit out of them.
He can clean up.

What a well brought up son, maybe you should encourage him to set things on fire as well, a can of petrol and matches for this birthday.
Get him onto explosives and when the terminators rise he will be ready to lead the human race to salvation

Or he could get a job as a park ranger or a demolitions expert.

I do. Families are not "communes." In most cases one, or perhaps two people provide the income to support the family and the rest are expected to participate in the daily chores of maintaining the household. But they don't get to choose what or how much work they will do, they are directed in their labor by the head of the family because they are children, not adults. You cannot really apply political labels to families because the structure and the reasons for the structure are completely different from a society made up of adults. Children don't get to make all the decisions because they are incompetent to do so and it is the responsibility of the parents to direct their decisionmaking and their labor to teach them how to make good decisions that will serve them well as adults. The biggest problem welfare-state, dependent-class socialist societies have is that because the parents themselves are incompetent to take care of themselves, and have surrendered their well-being and future to the whims of the state, they cannot teach their children to be self-actualizing and responsible and how to make good decisions, and the world gets another generation of ignorant, stupid, incompetent, grasping, selfish dependent-class proletarians who cannot care for themselves much less their children-to-be.

I blame Will Smith

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

But seriously, how much worse is her FB post than the Will Smith song? Should Will Smith's father have shot up the recording studio?

He would've wound her up more if he'd printed it out and stuck it on the fridge with a magnet and stamped a big, red 'A+' on it.
