CES, you have a chip on your shoulder a mile wide! I think you have an inferiority complex when it comes to interacting with Europeans.

You do realise that the majority of the stuff you find so annoying is posted just to wind you up?Coito ergo sum wrote:A chip? No, I wouldn't describe it as such. And anyway, where are all these posts by Europeans berating the US' treatment of illegal immigrants?

Perhaps. I like getting wound up. I write some of my best stuff when wound up.Pappa wrote:You do realise that the majority of the stuff you find so annoying is posted just to wind you up?Coito ergo sum wrote:A chip? But, I am sure that Maiforpeace is quite serious about the nonsense she posts about immigration here.
Hux, I'm not so sure....but, I can't help but like the Hux, even when he is needling me. He has such a fabulous turn-of-phrase about his posts. I really have to hand it to him. He packs more punch and more humor in short sentences than I can fit into one of my walls of electronic ink. My hat is often tipped to the old Hussar.
I was referring to Hux, but I think if we look at the other immigration threads, we'll find plenty. It's not hard to find European criticism of all things 'merkin.Pappa wrote:

But, I like the battle of the continents almost as much as the battle of the sexes. Even when I get wound up and aggravated, I am still enjoying myself -- or "me-self" as the Britlanders say .
I have to say, that is one of the reasons I like rationalia so much. Folks can beat each other up, and then share metaphorical beer with each other afterwards. It's great. Some of what I consider to be my best Ratz friendships came out of some pretty serious crucibles of knock-down-drag out rhetorical warfare.
I love it. And, you're all good eggs, so I love you all too.
Now -- have at you!

You read my thoughts. There'll be no wishy-washy warm-and-fuzzy tree-hugging get-in-touch-with-your-inner-self new-man nonsense here!Clinton Huxley wrote:Oh no, we aren't going to do a group hug, are we?

Quite right, too! The 44th tried that and were all in the middle of backslapping each other when the damned Dervishes attacked. Butchered to a man. Colours captured. Disapproving write-up in the Times. Hell of a business, hell of a business, I said!klr wrote:You read my thoughts. But a bad write up in "The Paper of Record" is no laughing matter

An Anglo-Saxon considers a "hug" to be when they are 40 meters apart and waving, hesitantly, towards each other....Clinton Huxley wrote:Oh no, we aren't going to do a group hug, are we?

Re: California Taxpayer Protection Act of 2012
http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc ... ican/3889/My offspring were Americans just by virtue of being born here (no other country in the world is or has ever been this generous). As soon as I got my green card, immigration officers started saying "welcome home" when I passed through. Moreover, as one who is incompetent to do anything save writing and speaking, I stood under the great roof of the First Amendment and did not have to think (as I once had to think) of the libel laws and the other grand and petty restraints that oppress my craft in the country of my birth.
