It's in China. Maybe the "manufacturer" is whoever shows up that day...
I'm 'fraid of saving that much money.

You didn't think of using a Florida address? Or a Missouri one?

Shipping from Hong Kong vs the US sounded like a thrifty choice. The one hitch was actually getting the fucking product.

Let's see if the thing shows up and if it's worth the plastic it's made of...

Just got the webcam today. It works fine and gives a much clearer image than the one that came on this computer.

Not sure it's really 12MP, but I'm not sure how I'd be able to tell that for sure, anyway.

Look at the pixel count, vertical and horizontal, of an image. Do the math. That will tell you. (Make sure you have it set for the highest definition available, of course.)

Hmm... I guess I need to be thinking of this, too. Or do all new laptops already come with inbuilt webcams? I've only started to look, so I'm still at the size-of-screen / amount-of-RAM / how-big-a-disk stage of choices.
"The internet is made of people. People matter. This includes you. Stop trying to sell everything about yourself to everyone. Don’t just hammer away and repeat and talk at people—talk TO people. It’s organic. Make stuff for the internet that matters to you, even if it seems stupid. Do it because it’s good and feels important. Put up more cat pictures. Make more songs. Show your doodles. Give things away and take things that are free." -

Built-in is convenient, but limits your choices. Sort of like the StUGs, where you had to aim the whole tank if you wanted to shoot somebody.

Nice analogy, Zilla...

...which is why I would love one that has a lid in front of the lens, and can thus be closed. And they can all be unplugged or turned the other way.
