Nationalism and ethnocentrism are not unique to Americans.
Could it be possible that you are simply more exposed to U.S. related news vis-a-vis non-U.S. news? The U.S. is after all the most populous English-speaking nation by far, the world's largest economy, and the world's only current superpower. So it is only natural that international media will tend to focus just a bit more on U.S. political and economic affairs than those of say, Liechtenstein, for example.
That may be part of the reason. However, it is also probably a factor behind the unconscious arrogance that one sees clearly from quite a few American commentators (and I don't mean folk on this forum, with obvious exceptions). The world power status of the US may mean that issues that are important to the US become, in their minds, issues which must be important to the entire world...
However, that is really a minor point. Mainly, I was telling Seth to stop demanding that the rest of the world confirm to the fantasies of American gun fetishists...
And I certainly accept that he is a tiny minority. Just not quite tiny enough...
