Are you seriously suggesting this applies to democratically elected western governments such as Australia, the UK and most of Europe? Countries who have gun-ontrol laws different to yours, supported by a majority of their voters?

If that is the case, you need serious psychiatric help...
Nope, you do. Aussies are so sheep-like, docile and servile that they actually TURNED IN millions of "banned" guns to be destroyed just because some bureaucrat told them to...not because there was universal agreement to surrender the right to keep and bear arms. Their masters, quite literally the Police State (the servile elected officials in office kowtow and tug their forelocks for the Police Ministers bureaucrats who naturally tend towards strict gun control and gun bans as a species), who ordered this travesty deserve to be shot, and the government deserves to be overthrown by people interested in liberty and fundamental human rights.

The first act of all despots and tyrants is to disarm the populace. That's why free people do not allow that to happen.

Actualy the first act is to arm them, government don't terrorise people only the public can do that

I know you already know this, but the extreme libertarians are a tiny minority here in the US and do not represent the prevailing ethos.

Fair point about Seth and his ilk being tiny minorities of absurd fantasists... That is obvious to the meanest intelligence... ;)

However, if you look at many mainstream US media outlets, and press releases by many US politicians, there is a definite flavour of "we know best" which may not be apparent within the US...

And I am by no means an enemy of your country (I support the US/Australian alliance, for example...), just a little concerned that you may not be picking up overseas vibes about the US...

That's the good ol' US arrogance that you and many others simply don't get, and don't understand how it is leading to a steady decline in the attitude of a hell of a lot of people to the US in general...

Oh, give me a fuckin' break.

Every goddamn time I visit this site or ratskep, half the fucking active topics are fucking British Supremacists, Aussie Exceptionalists, Canadian Nationalists, and Euro Judgmentalists telling Americans how to live, how to behave, how to vote, how to govern. And the other half are the same assholes telling us how stupid and fat we are, how shitty our beers, mustards, and cheeses are, how awful our movies and T.V. shows are, et cetera, et cetera, and so on.

So hows about you take your "good ol' US arrogance", and shove it right up your ass, 'cause: A) the arrogance flows in all directions, and B) Seth is one American out of three hundred and ten million.

Did you miss this bit?

"I won't tell the US how to organise its laws about gun ownership"

(and I agree that there have been examples on this forum where non-US members have taken a rather "holier than thou" attitude about your gun laws...)

What I am commenting on is an area that seems to be invisible to many from the US; the attitude that the US point of view is the primary one, and that the rest of the world contains various aberrations... It is not entirely confined to the absurd Sethian minority, either...

It's in the nature of Imperial powers to lecture everyone else. It's no sweat, really. I see the Chinese are already lecturing the US on how to organise its economic affairs, so the baton is passing anyway.

Nationalism and ethnocentrism are not unique to Americans.

Could it be possible that you are simply more exposed to U.S. related news vis-a-vis non-U.S. news? The U.S. is after all the most populous English-speaking nation by far, the world's largest economy, and the world's only current superpower. So it is only natural that international media will tend to focus just a bit more on U.S. political and economic affairs than those of say, Liechtenstein, for example.
