Atheists: the least trusted minority group in America?

Post by charlou » Wed Nov 09, 2011 5:38 am

I don't think making such comparisons between 'groups' is a tactful way of measuring and showing sentiment about any one particular group. But anyway, here it is ...

Hate to say it but I've heard a lot of fundies say they "couldn't trust an atheist."

They claim it's because of morals; of course, such people know nothing of ethics, and in fact prefer to avoid them because it makes people ask inconvenient questions about the super magic sky daddy.

I can't imagine what is like to live in a theocratic nightmare like the USA. Things are not ideal here with regards religious idjuts but at least they are not in a majority. I wonder what it is like when a American atheist visits here and see's how so many churchs have been turned into bingo-halls and carpet shops? Yet a little over a century ago this country was deeply religious too. When you've lost your empire and have to deal with a balanced economy rather than one hoovering up resources from everywhere....that's when reality kicks in? and reality is a better propoganda tool for atheism than anything else? :coffee:

I guess it looks that way from the outside, depending on what news you read, but really it's not like that at all. And I've certainly seen plenty of instances of crazy fundamentalism from Britain; you should check out Freethinker. You'll find that Canada and Australia are the same in that regard, and plenty of other places too.

I'm glad I don't know any atheists. They sound like an untrustworthy bunch of barbarians. :ddpan:

I guess it's gonna be a niche market when I set up my Atheist Daycare Center when I retire and need to make more money and not leave home. Maybe I could just set it up with Zilla, we'll put the toddlers in with the wolf pups.

That wouldn't build much repeat business. (See the latest video in the "Puppies" thread.)

No way, make it homeopathic extenders. Claim that Homeopaths know that their medication dosage is stronger than it needs to be, and that by adding distilled water that's been iodized and specially filtered, they can dilute the medication to make it last twice as long without reducing its effectiveness! You'll cut into the homeopaths bottom line (so no guilt) and you can sell it to undercut homeopathic remedies, so that you save the swindled consumer money. Plus you get to make a tidy profit. Win, win, win.
Nobody expects me...
