Re: Pope apologizes for Christian violence in history
This is a particularly smelly red herring argument, given that I've never once stated or implied that there aren't. I'm merely taking the time to point out that all one billion Catholics and all 400,000 Catholic priests are not responsible for the hypocrisy and abuse of power of a few Catholics and Catholic priests. This is a fairly simple argument that any rational person would simply agree is an obvious truth. But you are so deeply mired in mindless, foaming-at-the-mouth hatred of all things Catholic that you are utterly blind to the great and substantial good that the Catholic church is and has done in the world. Here's one example: Catholic priests were serving and treating AIDS patients with utter disregard for their own personal health and safety during the time when even the organized medical establishment was refusing to treat them and the public was treating them like lepers. I could go on and on, but I won't bother because you're mindless, raving antipathy prevents you from being even the least bit rational about this subject so it's not worth my time to demonstrate just how completely wrong you are.Gawdzilla wrote:Just because you don't have a problem with the massive hypocrisy and blatant abuse of power doesn't mean there aren't people with morals and ethics in the world.Seth wrote:Sure you are.Gawdzilla wrote:We're not stupid enough to buy that shit anymore.Seth wrote:Sure, because on balance it does far more good than evil, which is the case for most religions these days. Nor do I care if you are as stupid as you make yourself out to be.I really don't care if you are as evil as you make yourself out to be,
Wow! Perfection. Kewl.if you're a POE then you have achieved perfection,
I'm not the one arguing for socialist theft of the labor of others to suit their own selfish and greedy desires. Nor is the Pope.if not you are just another sad sack selfish get that exemplifies what's wrong with this world.

The catholic church is rotten to the core not because individual priests rape children but because its leadership has done everything to cover this up and in affect has faciliated this.
If the headmaster of a school had tried to protect teachers who molested children in this way he personally would be in jail even if he never touched a kid himself.
The Italian government should abolish this fascist state of the Vatican and puts its leadership on trial for (modern) crimes against humanity

Care workers abuse children. The response is not to abolish care services, it is to put safeguarding children processes in place, just like the RC church has. Some politicians abuse children. The response is not to abolish all politicians. You don't solve abuse with abuse.MrJonno wrote:The catholic church is rotten to the core not because individual priests rape children but because its leadership has done everything to cover this up and in affect has faciliated this.

Cute, but the system is broken beyond repair. It's based on the Great Sky Fairy, for starters.

It's not about individual cases of abuse of course no organisation can be responsible for what individual members do but if the organisation knows what is going on and tries to protect its members then at the very minimum its leadership should be arrested and if the corruption is so epedemic then the future of that organisation needs to be considered

Re: Pope apologizes for Christian violence in history
Well yeah but be specific. If a leader of an organisation knows that abuse happens in his/her organisation, that does not mean they have to close the organisation down. But if a Director of Social Services deliberately covered up a case known to him and didn't report it to the police he should be arrested if that ever comes out. There was a lot of slowness in social services in the 1980s and 1990s to adopt the kind of thorough safeguarding children procedures we have now; that shouldn't mean that social services should be disbanded. Plenty of that behaviour has gone on in social services up to the 1960s and 1970s and even later but it's proving it. Same problem with the RC church. There's no substantive difference. Safeguarding procedures in the RC church must be as robust as in schools; by and large they are now, at least in england, probably most other advanced countries too.MrJonno wrote:It's not about individual cases of abuse of course no organisation can be responsible for what individual members do but if the organisation knows what is going on and tries to protect its members then at the very minimum its leadership should be arrested and if the corruption is so epedemic then the future of that organisation needs to be considered

They've know about the problem for centuries and done nothing. That is the bullshit that should be pissing you off. Apparently you're okay with pedophilia as an institution.

Apparently you are okay with pedophilia in Social Services Departments but not the Roman Catholic Church. I'm not okay with it in either institution, and nor are they.Gawdzilla wrote:They've know about the problem for centuries and done nothing. That is the bullshit that should be pissing you off. Crap. They move priests around to avoid getting busted. Conspiracy and accessory after the fact, if not before. How much shit will you take from your church before you decide enough children have suffered?Exi5tentialist wrote:Apparently you are okay with pedophilia in Social Services Departments but not the Roman Catholic Church. You should be upset. You're not. Noted. Good going with the support of the Church's support of pedophiles.Exi5tentialist wrote:You are just looking for drama Zilla. Now calm down.
