Adjusting for inflation, that would be like $300,000 in today's dollars. That's $300,000 you've leached off society.

How do you know how long ago these loans were taken out? :dono:

If you can find one who actually "sucked the taxpayer dry on subsidies" then yes, actually they DO have a vote on whether the subsidies are granted in the first place. And since ag subsidies are granted subject to a huge number of very specific rules regarding their proper use, and since improper use of agricultural subsidies is known as "fraud," what you're suggesting already happens. When some farmer misuses the subsidy, he gets prosecuted and has to pay it back, usually with a penalty.

Having to account to the government for how subsidy money was spent is one of the reasons that I never took any government ag subsidies for my ranch operations. Too much paperwork.

What about all the millionaires who buy a small farm that others operate so they can be considered a "farmer" and pay less in taxes?

Less taxes on what? What taxes, exactly, do "millionaires" get out of paying by owning a small farm? Please be specific. Cite the Tax Code provisions demonstrating that "millionaires" who buy "small farms that other operate" are considered "farmers" and that this somehow allows them to pay "less in taxes" on their non-farm income.

Don't work too hard at it because as it turns out, you're (as usual) completely wrong about everything, at least insofar as US tax law is concerned.

Here's a clue: The Tax Code distinguishes "farm income" from other types of income, so even if a "millionaire" owns a "small farm that others operate," the only tax breaks he might get would be related to his farm-generated income and expenses, which means he gets nothing more than any other farmer does not likewise enjoy by way of tax breaks for farming.

Maybe college major should play a roll in getting financial aid? Surely statistics can be used to see which majors are poor investments.

:cheer: "I'd like to major in social working and women studies at your fancy college"

:prof: "I trust your family is wealthy enough to pay for tuition?"

:cheer: " No, I was going to get a loan and pay it back after I graduate of course"

:prof: "And what type of job do you think you will be qualified for to pay back the loan amount with degrees in those studies?"

:nervous:

:prof: "I thought so."

:sadcheer:
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Obama: "Please vote for me again kids. I'll give you free money!"

Hey there full tuition scholarship. Yeah I worked my ass off for you. Yeah I had to keep my grades up in college to keep you. Hey there diploma. Yeah, I got a practical 4 year degree so that I could get a good job without having to go into debt for graduate school. Hey there clunker car. Yeah I bought you used and haven't ever traded you in or replaced you because I don't want to have to make car payments just for a status symbol. Hey there responsibility. Yeah you're pretty fucking useless when these people are in charge.
