This, in reply to one of the most gentle, placatory posts in this entire thread, just sums up your attitude to me. You don't fit in at all. :nono:

You're nice. But there are some people here who most definitely are not, and I just want them to leave me alone, period. They can try to fix it later; like Robert says, I don't write most people off. But when someone fucks up good and solid, I expect them to admit it and move on to start fixing it, not get all chickenshit and arrogant with me. If they do, I'm liable to get hostile. And I don't get over it until they stop fucking with me. That can take a year or more. I'm like a cat in that; scare a cat once and they never forget it.

I'm sorry, I didn't read anything Tigger said beyond the first lie, which I quoted and refuted with obvious evidence, plain-as-the-nose-on-your-face stuff. Nor will I; I do not appreciate being lied to, and the penalty is, if you had something to say, you have to re-post it without the insult or lie. That's how I get rid of trolls.

It rather concerns me that some of the more active and vocal among the staff have behaved like trolls on this thread. I have even had a threat from a staff member, specifically Tigger, and yes, it's a threat, and yes, I showed how his attempt to maneuver around it is a lie, right there in as many words. I don't appreciate that much, either. I think there are some people on staff with some emotional problems that they need to work on, and I don't intend to help them. I don't get paid enough.

What I want is simple: be nice or stay the fuck away from me. Do not play power games that include me; I don't want any power, I just want to be left alone. I am not interested in other peoples' power, it doesn't impress me, and if I have to deal with it my general modus operandi is to fight. It's probably better to just leave me alone if folks can't be polite.

It's all hurty in here.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Robert_S wrote:Schneibster, I like you and when you first showed up I was pretty happy that you did. You have demonstrated that you can make interesting contributions, you also present my political position much better than I do. But your tone comes off really abrasive sometimes and it is hard to deal with. I'm willing to work with it and be patient and not get woo worked up about with that aspect of your posting, but you really should consider cutting other people some slack in return.
Robert, I appreciate your forthrightness, but I remember your earlier behavior as well.

You have not apologized to me for it. Until you do so, I cannot take what you say seriously.

I will always cut slack when slack is cut for me; when you see me not doing so, it's because I perceive I'm not being cut any.

My manner is abrasive because I've been abraded, very seriously. I don't like it and I don't tolerate much of it. Seth is pretty much calculated to bring out the worst in me, and I remain convinced that he worked Ronja, that Ronja has never and probably never can admit it, and that you all are ignoring it, some through stupidity, others through cupidity, and yet others because you think it's OK to treat people like I've been treated because they matter less than the "in" crowd.

It's bigotry, Robert, and I don't tolerate bigotry. Sorry.

If you want to get along you've got a lot of work to do. Most of it out of my presence, please; I am not paid enough to teach you. Just leave me be and if you think I'm fucking up drop me a line and I'll look into it, K? If it really bothers everybody that much, I'll try to get along, but be prepared for me to ask why it's my problem and what I'm reacting to isn't the problem. There will always be something I'm reacting to in a situation like that. Guaranteed. Otherwise it'll just stop and you'll never hear anything, or if you do it will be an apology.

That's how adults behave, Robert.

I must admit I don't know why you came back to such a horrible lot as us...

Plenty of other forums out there, why stay at one that you apparently detest, with no evidence it is going to change in any direction that would suit you...

It's kind of like democracy; it's the worst form of government, other than the alternatives that have been tried from time to time.

Actually, I don't like calls for someone to "fit in" either. It comes off as wanting someone to stifle themselves. I'm fairly confident that nobody here wants another user to do that.

I like the way you put it though "try to get along".
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

So am I, which is why it bothers me to see Xamonas telling me to. Either you have a person on staff who does, in fact, want people to do that, or you have a person on staff whose emotional stability is bad enough that they will abandon their principles to attack an outsider. Either way not good.

Can be fixed, mind you; but much to learn of the Way, that one has. And others here, as well. That they can be brought to understanding, not clear it is. Much work to do, there is, and little help Schneib can be in it, with the best will in the world.
Robert_S wrote:I like the way you put it though "try to get along".
That's about it. It should be good enough for an adult understanding. Adults respect the spirit of their agreements, not just the letter, and adults correct themselves when they find themselves doing wrong. That is a great deal of what concerned me here, was that not happening.

I'm pretty sure that XC meant trying to get along, but chose a way to put it that had some unfortunate overtones.

My perspective is that whatever disagreements we might have in the Serious Stuff, we should try to keep them civil and friendly enough that we can exchange banter in the Pub at the same time. This is not my Official Moderator Policy, but my feeling as an ordinary member.

As a moderator, I have a lot of inner conflict when it comes to trying to be fair and even handed. Going by the spirit of the rules is dangerous since I'm liable to be biased to one side or the other, then there is the danger of over-correction where I could be inclined to come down unfairly hard the side I personally favor.

That's why I'm glad I'm not expected to make these decisions alone. It may take hours for the other mods to weigh in, but then we get (usually, hopefully) a fairer decision.

I'll admit that I should have handled the situation earlier in this thread better. I actually got mod-o-fied in the middle of all that and was still trying to adjust to my new role here. I'll review the whole thing and give an apology for what I honestly believe warrants one.
