Disbelief in belief.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I've never tried debunking the fact that the Pascalian Wager wrongly assumes chretinity as THE religion to follow to a chretin... After all, what if the RIGHT religion is islam or buddhism? you'll have lost your wager anyway, following the dictates of a religion, but without benefits because you picked the wrong one.

I just re-read His Dark Materials (HDM) and one of the concepts that comes out of it is that humans becoming self-aware was a good thing. Left unsaid in the books, but logically follows - There was no fall. So there's no need for redemption either. One of the characters in HDM says outright that Christianity is a very powerful and persistent mistake, that's all.

Only religion could take something good, our evolution into self-awareness, and turn it into something bad. Reverse this single mistake, and the whole thing falls apart. Which probably explains why the clergy are so afraid of the teaching of evolution.

Shit on their doorstep, then knock on their door and ask for some toilet tissue.

Not being allowed into schools to spread their mind virus to the next generation
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.
