Ricky Gervais talks about Atheism
Ricky Gervais talks about Atheism
Thought you guys might like to see this, it's not much though.
Don't go near that elevator - that's just what they want us to do... trap us in a steel box and take us down to the basement.

He's looking good.
I like the way he cuts through the bollocks clearly and concisely.

Bit of a stammer, though. That surprised me. Hangover maybe?charlou wrote:He's looking good.

Re: Ricky Gervais talks about Atheism
I used to lose the power of speech when I had a serious hangover, that's why I wondered. One time a guy kept bugging me for a reply when my head was pounding. I got to the point where I just reached under my pillow and pulled out a gun. He thought I was bluffing, for about two second. In retrospect, firing a gun right then was a bad idea.charlou wrote:I didn't notice this time .. but he does kinda do that sometimes, now you mention it.

I don't know if he drinks.
Could it be wavering due to a fleeting moment of selfconsciousness or uncertainty?

One cause of stammering is that the brain is several words ahead of the mouth. I'm betting that's the case here.charlou wrote:I don't know if he drinks.

They all talk like that in Reading. It's not a stammer it's his accent.

It doesn't come out in his shows, however. (Assuming you're not taking the piss.)Exi5tentialist wrote:They all talk like that in Reading. It's not a stammer it's his accent.

Just watched it again ...yes ... it sometimes looks like he's searching for the words to say what he has in mind ...

I tend to err and umm when looking for the words .. probably more than I'm aware of. I envy those who can effortlessly speak off the cuff

I speak in public a lot, but I got trained to keep the "noise" down in the third grade. The teacher had a real things about "and, uh". So every time somebody did that in class the whole group would go "AND, UH!" A few times and you learned better. This was refined in the Navy, where we have to speak clearly and unambiguously when passing messages. Ian can tell you what it's like when you have a stammer on the 2JV circuit.charlou wrote:I tend to err and umm when looking for the words .. probably more than I'm aware of. Makes a change from him prattling on about how rich and famous he is and stealing a career from the antics of the witless Karl Pilkington.
