I think mulatto matter follows logically from the existence of dark matter and matter.
I just worry about my old Aunty Matter. :(

OK, so ATM the score is something like 10 well argued views for Dawkins' POV and one fragmented and self-contradictory against?

Somehow I did not see that in our future in late February 2010 :hehe:

It's possible to separate the man from the idea for me.

For you and a few others, yes...

Abolition of every faith school
Abolition of religious tax status
Evolution referenced and explained
Creationism referenced and de bunked
Every child to read The Bible in its entirety
Every child to read The Koran in its entirety
Religion to be taught as humanity in all schools
No adult allowed to religiously indoctrinate any child
All major religions taught in schools not just Christianity
Children taught to question anything that is not undisputed fact
A MIND IS LIKE A PARACHUTE : IT DOES NOT WORK UNLESS IT IS OPEN

...and even the undisputed facts, just for good training or fun (or both).

Otherwise a pretty perfect list.

Childhood is too short to be wasted with this IMHO. :levi:

As for debunking Creationism ... maybe, but why even bother giving it the "oxygen of publicity"?

I vote no on that. People who want to create schools of whatever sort should be free to do so, and nobody should be forced to go them.
surreptitious57 wrote: Abolition of religious tax status
I disagree. Religious tax exemption is supposed to be to keep the Church and State separate. There should be no taxation of the churches, and no funding to the churches.
surreptitious57 wrote: Evolution referenced and explained
...in biology class...
surreptitious57 wrote: Creationism referenced and de bunked
Disagree. Not to be referenced, because the mention of Christian creationism would require the mention of a myriad other types of Creationism. It's a waste of time, and it's not science.
surreptitious57 wrote: Every child to read The Bible in its entirety
If they want to. It's a good idea to get some Biblical references in English literature.
surreptitious57 wrote: Every child to read The Koran in its entirety
If they want to. I'd rather my kids read the Bhagavad Gita and the I'Ching and the Tao Te Ching. I would have to supervise reading of the Koran to put its filth in context.
surreptitious57 wrote: Religion to be taught as humanity in all schools
College. Leave religion out of grammar school and high school.
surreptitious57 wrote: No adult allowed to religiously indoctrinate any child
Stay the fuck out of my life, and the life of my family. You and others are not the boss of me, or my family, nor do I ceded to you the right to tell me what my family ought know and learn. Keep your authoritarian philosophy away from me.
surreptitious57 wrote: All major religions taught in schools not just Christianity
No major or minor religions taught in public schools, including but not limited to Christianity.
surreptitious57 wrote: Children taught to question anything that is not undisputed fact
There is no such thing as undisputed fact.

I am also in favour of all variations in all spectrums - religious
political, philosophical, economic - being taught so that pupils are
aware of such differences. But teachers should not over step the mark
and impose their own interpretation. And this applies equally to atheists as
well as theists. Pupils should be taught how to think, not what to think beyond
basic factual information. It is the job of the teacher to educate not to indoctrinate
and most probably avoid that anyway. But once a pupil leaves the class, and returns home
they can have everything they learnt dismissed. Yet parents too have a responsibility to educate
Well personally I tend to think that that anything can be a science, where science refers to systematic
study, or a subject-area that has its own internal systematic structure. After all, we freely use the
terms political science and social science, I really do not see anything particularly controversial
about the scientific study of the sciences of religion. Theology is a legitimate academic
subject in its own right, and from what I gather is intellectually very demanding.
As for teachers 'overstepping the mark' as you call it ('imposing their own
interpretation') I don't think you've really hit the nail on the head of
what you're trying to say. After all, we expect maths and physics
teachers to teach their interpretation most of the time, I really
don't see what's so controversial about teachers of theology
teaching from their own perspective. And again I think
you have a very arbitrary boundary between what is
education and what is indoctrination. Personally I
think in principle the two things are exactly the
same. No one has a monopoly of truth, surely?
