seriously, I never managed to properly understand that 'gaslighting' term... it seems tied to deception and skullduggery, but it's never been clear.
what's more, I don't understand the fashion for it, as I've gotten used to seeing it not so long ago, but now that it's there, I see it used all the time.

Also, there was mention of something I'd read about before - the recent reduction in aerosol air pollution (particularly in China) has accelerated global warming, as the pollutants tended to reflect sunlight. Yeah - reductions in fossil emissions comes with reductions in reflective atmospheric SO₂.

There's also the unsettlingly high sea temps in the Eastern Pacific at the moment.

That's what happened in the 70s ( remember acid rain/ Global Cooling etc). Particulate was hiding the actual climate reality and when the atmosphere was cleaned up warming skyrocketed.

The good news is electrification is soaring thanks mostly to China products and consumption but hopefully this El Nno bounce will be enough of a warning.

Canadian government steps in as ‘out of control’ wildfires force thousands to flee

Canada’s federal government has announced it will provide urgent assistance to British Columbia after an onslaught of unprecedented fast-moving wildfires that killed one person and forced about 22,000 people to flee their homes in frantic evacuations.

A total of 102 wildfires were raging across the province on Sunday, of which nearly half were categorised as “out of control”, according to the BC Wildfire Service. Of those fires, 78 ignited during the past week.

The entire community of Summerland, about 30 miles (48km) south-west of the city of Kelowna and home to about 12,000 people, was evacuated overnight on Saturday, along with a further 8,000 people around nearby Peachland. About 10,000 others have been told to prepare to evacuate at a moment’s notice...

First Nations chiefs in B.C. call on Carney, Smith to halt advancing West Coast pipeline

A group that represents numerous First Nations across British Columbia is calling on Ottawa and Alberta's government to halt efforts to advance the West Coast pipeline, saying expanding the oil industry will accelerate climate change and disasters.

"The destructive and disastrous consequences of expanding fossil fuel production extend far beyond any single territory," the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs said in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.

"From catastrophic wildfires to destructive floods and rising seas, the impacts of climate change are already being felt across this country. Every new fossil fuel project deepens that crisis."

The letter came Sunday, a day after the B.C. government issued a state of emergency as more than 100 wildfires burned across the province, with one forcing nearly 25,000 people across two communities east of Vancouver to flee. Nearly half of the wildfires were burning out of control.

The Indigenous group said it is also publishing the letter on International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples on Sunday to reaffirm that it's against the pipeline because government has not consulted and co-operated in good faith with the First Nations...
