God made 2012 ???
It seems measuring years from the time of the birth of a imaginary historical figure like jesus christ is giving free publicity, free kudos, to chrisitianity? Should there be a campaign for a atheist year zero? and start counting from then? how about this year, call it 0 AH? After Hitchens? just to be arbitary yet meaningful?

We're actually living in 60 A.G., at least for another two weeks.

First of all, you have to start with 1. Even if it is the first year. I nominate Shulgi

Not a problem. I am about to finish my 61st year, and start my 62nd. So it is now 60 years and some days since I was born, hence 60 A.G.Tero wrote:First of all, you have to start with 1. Even if it is the first year. I nominate Shulgi

Having a tidy mind, I'd like to see decimal time. Might involve some minor reconfiguration of the Solar System, but it'll be much better.

Pray, do not mock me: I am a very foolish fond old man; And, to deal plainly, I fear I am not in my perfect mind.
Blah blah blah blah blah!
Memo to self: no Lir chocolates.
Life is glorious.

Re: God made 2012 ???
Could this be the year 0 A.H.?
Actually I was thinking about this the other day. Anatomically modern humans have been dated back as far as 196000 years; the "Fertile Crescent" is thought to have been settled about 11000 years ago, and the earliest civilisations about 8500 BC. Having years in 6 figures is probably a little OTT, so why not take one of the others - round it off to a convenient thousand, and keep whatever last digits we already have...
How about this being the year, say, 12011 since the dawn of agriculture... Saves a lot of converting too.

Oh sure, and in 99999 there would be this big panic about the computers crashing.Thinking Aloud wrote:Could this be the year 0 A.H.?

Since we're unlikely to make it to 12100, I'm not going to worry about that.Gawdzilla wrote:Oh sure, and in 99999 there would be this big panic about the computers crashing.Thinking Aloud wrote:Could this be the year 0 A.H.?
