Re: Hawking announces god not needed to create the universe
Animavore, I can summarize these books for you. When you look at STUFF on really small or large scale, everything goes weird. Time and all that shit is stretchy and the universe is stretchy and odd shaped and you are at the center of it all points. Better to go back to thinking of atoms as the solid models in the atomic model set from college. Sticks for bonds.
Re: Hawking announces god not needed to create the universe
Well I have read other books on the same topic. Brian Greene is rally good. I'm not sure if hawking is all there any more. All that dodgy speculation on aliens and his recent crap fest on The History Channel is kinda putting me off any new books.

I think we are too interested in all this mystery stuff. I like to read Heinrich books for light science reading.

Re: Hawking announces god not needed to create the universe
I was moved to tears upon hearing news of this on the radio driving in to work this morning, so despite some people's misgivings, I'm just glad there are credible people like Hawking out there saying there's no (need for) god.

Re: Hawking announces god not needed to create the universe
IMHO it would require divine intervention to stop the universe from ever happening and not create it due to the inherent property of the extreme instability of pristine nothingness. It is why the universe is something rather than nothing because there was nothing to prevent everything from happening, period. Well, it makes more sense to me or at least better than some convoluted string theory of divine intervention.
Just because more people believe Jesus is the son of God and not the son of Satan does not make it any truer.
