This is the point of religion though .Morticia. isn't it? Any and every religion claims that following its particular beliefs and principles is the only valid basis on which to live ones life, that goodness and virtue are the preserve of religiosity, and therefore to be without 'proper belief X' is to be without virtue and goodness - by definition immoral.

My point is not about churches arrogating power to set the standards of behaviour for individuals but about co-opting all the good of all society, all it's people and all good works .

That's like saying that since I've never murdered, or been murdered, that I'm not qualified or entitled to have an opinion about the practice of murder.Brian Peacock wrote:This conference will simply reinforce the established, 'correct' view and plead for special conditions which atheists must apply to their views on the Church. Sounds about right. Atheist have a wrong understanding of religion; only a right understanding is a valid foundation on which to talk about religious matters; only the religious have the right understanding.Mysturji wrote:That's like saying that since I've never murdered, or been murdered, that I'm not qualified or entitled to have an opinion about the practice of murder.Brian Peacock wrote:This conference will simply reinforce the established, 'correct' view and plead for special conditions which atheists must apply to their views on the Church. It will be interesting to learn what actually happens. France is pretty secular these days, I suspect there may be some protests.Brian Peacock wrote:Sounds about right. Most religious people I have met have a wrong understanding of religion. So, there seems to be a lot of that going around.Brian Peacock wrote:Sounds about right. As was the last one. (should have seen the look on his face when we greeted him all dressed up as members of YMCA.....nearly as priceless as when he found out he was going to spend eternity being buggered by a Gawdzilla
