In my opinion, their best songs are the ones that never were hits and that most people haven't usually heard of. (as I found when I tried to find youtube clips of my favourites)

I liked their film, Head. Total psychedelic weirdness with a thread of knowing derision of their manufactured status running through it. A real classic, if very dated. Co-written by Jack Nicholson! And some surprising cameos too, including Dennis Hopper, Frank Zappa and Sonny Liston.
