I think that he deliberately decided to use the emotionally charged word "prostitution" (which provides only a modest analogy for the behaviour) to attract much comment and notoriety, thus increasing the citation rate for his paper.

Much like the term "rape" as used by some biologists to describe aspects of behaviour by some male ducks, this will attract a predictable storm of criticism by the sorts of feminists that send the Dodo man into paroxysms...

I'm not sure which I prefer, post-structural feminist rhetoric or Chairman Mao Cultural Revolutionary rhetoric. Both have strengths.
