It seems a stupid question now.
But back in the 1960s, nobody could ever imagine a white man winning the title again.
It was commonly said that it would never happen, and it really looked that way.
I think after Floyd Patterson took the title off Ingmar Johansson, there wasn't a white man who even came close.
It's a bit like the 100 metres nowadays. Nobody can see a white man taking the record, or the Olympic Gold.
And it lasted from 1962 till the mid eighties, so it seemed like it was set in stone.
Now, since Lennox Lewis, the it's been mainly Russians and Ukrainians who have dominated for a dozen years, and last saturday, another white man took over, Tyson Fury, who is of Irish extraction.
It's funny how these things go in runs. Look out for the first Chinese heavyweight champion. It can only be a matter of time.
I wonder how long it will be before a white man wins the 100 metres gold? ( or a jap etc. ).
It is nice to see the stereotypes come crashing down.
Will a white man ever be world heavyweight champ?
