I'm not offended at the word CUNT showing up. I'm offended by the haphazard capitalization in itself.

"The packaging of the crackers has since been amended, with different letters in the slogan now capitalised to avoid the embarrassing mishap."

Why capitalize random letters at all? It makes no sense at all
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Its a very downmarket chain of supermarkets. They probably don't get the best graphic designers.

Or else, as the article ends: "Surely this is no accident, said Nick Hodgson on Facebook. "Someone must have noticed. I can't think of anything worse than your crackers taking the p*** out of you."

Actually I think they have brilliant graphic designers. They constantly mimic expensive brands to within an inch of copyright infringement.

Near plagiarism does not a 'brilliant' designer make.

Aldi's profit margins will be the test of that hypothesis. :read:

Really? I think there's more to it than that.

I don't agree with the theory that their quality is as good. I shop at Aldi and Tesco, and Tesco quality is often a lot higher.
Their fruit and fibre might look similar from the outside of the packet, but inside, there's a lot more fibre and a lot less fruit.

And a lot of things are cheaper at Tesco. Tesco have own-brand stuff which IS good quality, whereas Aldi often only stock the big brands, which cost a lot more.

I buy some stuff from Aldi, and some from Tesco. Whoever has what I want, at the best price.
I think that Aldi keep some stuff cheap, so that once you're in, you'll pick up the dearer stuff, rather than bother getting it elsewhere.

Profit and the quality of the graphics on packaging has not directly been linked. Arguably you can sell crap in a fancy package and make a big profit, but selling crap in a crap knock-off package doesn't quite compute to me. Aldi is making its (considerable) profit on selling lower quality stuff (on the whole), paying their staff peanuts and keeping their overheads at rock bottom. Its a depressing place to shop, though I do visit one now and again to see what German stuff might be on the shelves.

I quite agree with Rum. They might be brilliant, but it wouldn't be their graphic design talents that were brilliant, it would be their understanding of copyright law.
Copying doesn't take a lot of talent.

Simple oversight and checking doesn't take much time or money. That seems to be in short supply, and not just in "budget" chains.

It is a lot harder to copy in art than most people think. Anyone can do random squiggles like Picasso. He was not a genius - all hype and squiggles. But to copy a LSD trip like Salvador Dali - that was genius.

Don't know about over there. But over here "cracker" is slang for women's lady bits. So cracker and cunt are synonymous, though cunt is considered a much ruder term here.
