In Australia the orphaned joey of a rare and endangered tree kangaroo was successfully raised to health via a surrogate wallaby mother. Quite an incredible story. But it required the death of the wallaby's own joey first. That is, the wallaby joey was euthanized to allow the tree kangaroo to be adopted. What do you think, bioethicists?

Given that the wallaby was not an endangered species, and the euthanasia was painless, this bioethicist has no problem with the act.
As a side issue, has anybody ever seen tree kangaroos leaping around the branches of a tree? I have, if only in a zoo, and it is a very weird sight indeed...
