I just heard an interview with this guy about his ideas on progressive politics. I can't quite put my finger on what it was that bugged me so much about him... perhaps the wooliness of a few of his answers, perhaps his evasiveness when dodging direct questions about compelling people to do certain things. Anyway, I can well understand why Seth gets worked up about progressives if this guy is in any way representative.

Philosopher active in politics and apparently recognized as a legal theorist... that strikes me as a dangerous, possibly innately poisonous combination.

I've just had a bit of a listen and assume his idea of "progressive politics" is similar to progressive rock, sounds good on the surface but basically just a pretentious mish mash of classical music and fairy story gobbledegook. :{D

I had a look at the BBC link, and I learned two things that I never knew before, 1) that he's renowned, and 2) that he specialises in the bleedin obvious.

How he got from one to the other is worth studying.

I found it interesting, and it all seemed pretty clear to me.
