Archbishop of Canterbury

Post by Red Celt » Fri Nov 09, 2012 9:11 am

I don't know if anyone else noticed this: Justin Welby set to become new Archbishop of Canterbury.

Now, I have no interest in what a club I don't belong to does with its leadership... but this guy can have a political impact. What I find most unusual is that he's only been a bishop for 1 year - and now he's getting ordained as the highest figure in the Anglican church (below the queen).

That and he's an Eton boy. I heard him described as "well rounded" which was explained as "he made a lot of money in the corporate world"; which, to me, isn't how a leading Christian becomes well rounded.

Apparently he is pro Women (Bishops etc).

and anti Gay Marriage.........good! (because that means lots of rows and maybe a schism, plus the bonus of continuing to look out of touch with the 21st Century).
Get me to a Nunnery

He is also from the evangelical wingg. He also gets to help make government policy for the simple reason he is a senior god person with no democratic credentials at all. Stinks.

Well, it's a type of egalitarianism... Eton boys can hold every position of power, without hindrance. Difficult to see this one admonishing Cameron for any of his actions. Apart from gay rights... possibly... and there's Public School irony in there, somewhere.

You have a point. Go to Eton and there are no barriers to equality!

This should be merged with the Primate of all England thread...

Well, now. Have you seen this?

Justin Welby: Baby of 'new archbishop' died in car crash

Reverend Sally Hitchiner could fill a few pews.

I'd suffer some molestation gladly at the hands of these new female Revs....where do I sign up?
