Vatican leaves Ireland in a snit.

Deputy Vatican spokesman Father Ciro Benedettini said Archbishop Giuseppe Leanza, the Apostolic Nuncio of Ireland, had been recalled from Dublin for consultations.

The move follows last week's unprecedented rebuke of the Holy See by the Irish parliament in the wake of a report which accused Church authorities of covering up the sexual abuse of children by priests as recently as 2009.
So, instead of getting into real discourse about it, let's just stick our head in the sand...nothing new.

Discourse? You apparently don't understand. A priest needs to be reported to the civil authority when the Vatican decides a priest needs to be reported to the civil authority. No one is covering up. They're just waiting for the Vatican to decide.

The Vatican's statement includes the following. - "The recalling of the Nuncio, a measure rarely used by the Holy See, denotes the seriousness of the situation, and the desire of the Holy See to deal with it objectivity and with determination, as well as a certain note of surprise and regret regarding some excessive reactions".

They just don't seem to get it even now..

They get it. So they have their own little club and that's what counts for them.

I work with a really good guy who's a devout Catholic and friend of the priest club. When Bernard Law was forced out in Boston, he said it was too bad. Bernard was a really good guy and a really good administrator; very well respected. Then my friend explained that it would have been hard for Bernard to fire a priest, particularly one who was doing visible good works in the community. But what about the kids, I asked. Oh well.
