"Gnu Atheists"

Post by Orphia Nay » Tue Apr 26, 2011 1:54 am

I keep seeing the term "Gnu Atheists" about the intywebbs and was wondering where the term originated.

A lot of the articles on Butterflies and Wheels use the term. Ophelia Benson might have started it, but I'm not sure.

Also, what is its correct usage?

Is the Urban Dictionary definition correct?

Is it a name for atheists who aren't abusive, in response to people who think New Atheists are militant?

Gnu's are atheists, of course!! All animals are. ;)

I've never heard the term before Orphea, but then I'm not as informed on all the new atheist stuff these days as I could be I suppose.

Alternative spellings like that to give something an alternative meaning bug me. All I see is the mispelling. It's like the term "womyn"...drives me bonkers! I hate it when feminists use it.

I don't want to be an Atheist ..... Atheists are the type of people that say I'm 'letting the side down' 'not being on mission ' etc when I talk about nailing up xians and turning jerusalem into a smoking glass wasteland ....
