Mai too.
The only thing that bugged me about it was their statement about the pay it forward aspect...they already plan on doing it, so why ask me if I approve of it or not? I don't, and that is the reason why I wouldn't support this charity...it's not a real charity if there are any strings attached, even something as simple as what they propose.

I don't see the need for an atheist charity... almost all charities are secular.

That is not true here in the US at all.Pappa wrote:I don't see the need for an atheist charity... almost all charities are secular.

5. Would you send toys to this charity to distribute to local children in need?
Yes, I'd mail a toy
Yes, I'd send money for them to buy a toy
No, I hate toys
No, I hate children

As Mai say, "not here". The need is for an explicitly atheist charity to counter the claims we don't do that kind of thing. Hopefully this will inspire others to do the same and get the point across that religion is not needed in charity.Pappa wrote:I don't see the need for an atheist charity... almost all charities are secular.

Or, they have a religious element...Kiva, for example is supposed to be secular, but, they do have a number of participating MFI's that are religious. Our atheist lending group goes through great pains to vet all the MFI's so we can be sure we aren't making loans through MFI"s that prostelytize to the people they lend to.Gawdzilla wrote:As Mai say, "not here". Here in the US, there's a big charity that has been around for years (founded in the UK I might add) called Save the Children. Until recent years it advertised itself as a Christian organization. While they no longer advertise the Christian element to solicit donations (they must have realized they would get more money if they removed it) they still infuse their charity work with prayer and religious education in a number of ways. Take a look at their website...you would never know this by looking at it.

Mai, I know you've noticed that the "Christian Children's Fund" is now the "Children's Fund". The dropping of that one word is significant.
