The reality of government cuts

Post by Rum » Fri Oct 29, 2010 8:02 pm

Today it became clear that the 80 million budget we had to spend on services to support vulnerable kids in my organisation - the whole range from the most serious to the 'universal' will be reduced from £80 million by a little over £27 million as part of the governments 'savings' plans.

So it begins. Watch it all fall apart.

Oh shit, that does not sound good... :(

And I'll bet they'll expect what staff remain to work twice as hard, to hurry through their caseload, but they will still be in the shit if something happens to a kid as a consequence... :nono:

You forgot to put an "n" in there.

Oddly no. The line at the moment is singularly vague. The Conservatives are committed to 'smaller government' and the cuts fit their political agenda wonderfully. They must be cumming in their pants at the prospect of getting people to 'stand on their own two feet' with the excuse of the deficit to back them up. They aren't replacing legislation so much as trashing it completely and effectively dismantling all that smacked of bureaucratic social support. Some of it was bloated I would say and needed sorting out, but perhaps 5% would have seen to that at most.

A simplistic, ill thought out, unresearched set of actions driven by a huge government debt caused by the capitalist system at its worst is being paid for in this instance by the vulnerable kids of my local authority, not to mention the workers who will lose their jobs (might include me as it happens).

Basically exactly what will happen over the next 2 years here in the States once the Republicans take over. Oh, they'll cut the budget alright, on old folks, children, etc., but not even touch the military budget or corporate subsidies.
