Blasphemy!Posse Comitatus wrote:Gilliam is shit.

Oh. And what's the big deal with Heath Ledger anyway? It was the other actors who held my interest. Ledger was bland. Andrew Garfield (of Boy A), however, is a much more compelling actor in my opinion, and should have played the lead. Although I certainly liked him in his role as Anton. And Lily Cole...um...WTF? She looks like an alien. I mean, I love a face with character, don't get me wrong. But that's a little too much character

Also, the costumes and sets were great, but some of the special effects were downright cheesy

Anyhow, why do you ask, Coito? And you do realize we have a movie forum here, don't you?

I did not realize that.
I asked because I was thinking about renting it, and wanted some review info.

Moved to Stage & Screen.

Do you like Gilliam's other films? If you're a fan of his like I am, you may be disappointed. But the film isn't without its strong points. I just wish it were better. I wanted so much for it to be better.

It's not a patch on earlier works like Brazil and 12 Monkeys.
It's obvious that Ledger died somewhere between the on-location parts and the blue-screen parts and I'm not sure how much of the script was compromised to complete the film.

Lily Cole, on the other hand, is sex on legs. I'm sure if she cut herself vaginas would tumble out.

Jabberwocky, Time Bandits, Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and 12 Monkeys are all amazing films. He lost me with The Fisher King. Never saw Fear and Loathing. The Brothers Grimm was okay. And Tideland was fucking awful. I wished he'd made Good Omens. But that never happened, and it doesn't look like it ever will.Animavore wrote:It's not a patch on earlier works like Brazil and 12 Monkeys.
And I'm afraid of vaginas

Re: Did anyone see the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus?
Gilliam and Burton are both trying to get their hands on the rights to this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geek_Love
I hope Gilliam gets it because he's darker than Burton and isn't afraid of the disgusting elements of things. I think his style far more suits the macabre nature of this disturbed novel.
Plus i think Burton's a wash-out these days.

I'll have to give it another chance I guess. But I thought it was boring as fuck. And I thought the young girl wasn't a good enough actress to carry the film.Xamonas Chegwé wrote: Tideland is fucking incredible!

I pretty much stopped caring at Fisher King, which is terribly shallow of me. I liked that Lost in La Mancha doc though.

I just looked up Geek Love. I can't imagine a story more well suited for Gilliam.
A also just read that J K Rowling wanted to Gilliam to direct the Harry Potter films. Holy shit. Can you imagine what might have been?!
