I'm a lefty myself, I just think the Dems are an embarrassment, and when I started seeing how biased (to the left) the media, academia and bureaucracy is, I started looking more critically at those on the left.

No, they're full of shit when they say the wall is "immoral," and when they claim some righteous high-ground because they are against walls.

Sure, it's politics. They're lying and they pretend they don't, and their supporters don't give a fuck. Their supporters didn't care about caravans, and children lugged across the burning desert, and walls being put up in 2006 because their supporters are on the Democrat team.

Democrats get away with a lot of bullshit. They sit there and say illegal immigrants are more law abiding, more peaceful, harder working, honest, taxpaying residents of this country, who, on balance, are a net benefit to the US economy. Then, in the next breath, they claim that they in no way oppose "strong border control," they just want to do it differently than Trump does it. Oh, really? Why in the world do you need strong border control? To keep out the taxpaying, peaceful, non-crime-committing, hard working honest folks who are crossing the border to get a better life and at the same time create a "net benefit" to our economy? They want to keep that out? LOL. That's why they supported fences, drones, increased CBP and ICE manpower, and increased deportations 2016 and earlier?

Yeah! Why are there even immigration laws at all? Illegal aliens commit fewer crimes, pay more taxes, and are a greater benefit to the domestic economy than citizens. If anything, the citizens should be deported, and illegal aliens should be welcomed. Illegal aliens can be trusted at their word to never vote, to not smuggle drugs, and to always pay their fair share in taxes, whereas citizens cannot.

With both sides lying enthusiastically about illegal aliens, how can one know important things about it?

One cost which could clearly be discovered is if incarcerated persons are required to disclose their citizenship status. Then the annual cost of keeping them could be tallied.
How would you even discover numbers in a sanctuary city though? I mean, if there are programs to help illegal aliens, you could just count those, but I doubt they would disclose themselves, so benefits will (my best guess) be available without disclosing that information.
