Re: 2012 US Election -- Round 2
Nuclear power plants absolutely would not, and cannot, exist without federal subsidies and loan guarantees. The Pacific Northwest is powered almost entirely by federally funded hydropower projects.
Should we tear all those down?

You are free to gamble your money. Some of them will pay off, big time. 80% will fail.

And, I'm not opposed to subsidies, per se. I'm opposed to dumping money in crony capitalistic fiascos.

So in that ad, it says "Mitt Romney has a plan to help the auto industry". Any idea what that plan is?Coito ergo sum wrote:

Romney supporters have "brain freeze", they can't see any of the insanity.

No, whether advanced by a Republican or a Democrat, I support subsidies and countervailing duties to protect US industries from foreign dumping of products in the US. That sort of thing I support. I support subsidizing basic research at universities and that sort of thing. But, i don't support either party just funding private entities -- like Solyndra to the tune of $500 million dollars. We funded Solyndra to that level, and we haven't even been privy to a business plan. If i go to the bank for a business loan to fund an endeavor, the bank wants a business plan, and they review it to see if it makes sense. They fucking handed these "green" companies money on a wing and a prayer. That I oppose.Gerald McGrew wrote:Coito ergo sum wrote:And, I'm not opposed to subsidies, per se. So you must have been really pissed off and outspokenly so, at W. Bush since he's the one who started that whole thing (and the Republican congress started the loan program as part of the Energy Policy Act in 2005).Coito ergo sum wrote:No, whether advanced by a Republican or a Democrat, I support subsidies and countervailing duties to protect US industries from foreign dumping of products in the US. And again, what exactly is Romney's plan for the auto industry?

Nate Silver, of 538.com, however, still calculating Obama with a 75% chance of victory. http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/201 ... 47618.html
Re: 2012 US Election -- Round 2
I'm not sure about that. I think the Tea Party has already seen the height of their popularity (public opinion polls on them have dropped steadily for three years now), and 2012 might be the straw that finally breaks the rabid camel's back. No doubt Republicans will blame each other aplenty if Romney loses - Romney twisted himself into a pretzel trying to appeal to both conservatives and moderates - but I think the elements closer to the center of the party will start to reclaim their control over it and the loonies will once again find themselves in the back seat.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:http://www.salon.com/2012/10/27/frank_r ... bama_wins/
Then again, I'm an optimist.

Really? A "cock punch right in the nut sack?"
When Hillary runs again, the ad can be changed to "we'll give her a punch in the cunt, and smack dem tits from side to side." Oh, wait, that would be wrong...
