Sorry, Hermit, but this really is a perfect case of PC gone mad, with not a shred of rationality to justify it.

If I am not surprised that Rum, who keeps labelling himself as "a bit of a leftie" sings from the same page as the right wing nutjobs, why shouldn't I expect a self-described moderate to do likewise?

OK, seriously, now: Read my post again. I challenge you to find a single word in support of replacing applause with jazz hands. I was venting against the RWNJs from the first letter to the last full stop. The over the top comment, mirroring Morgan's hyperbolic "it was a sign of Britain losing its mind", "I am beginning to look forward to parliaments all over the world make clapping a jailable offence and not addressing those who request it by any one of the 108 requested pronouns a capital one", is meant to convey the strength of my exasperation concerning the pricks. They are making me spiteful.

I know what you mean, in that it was OTT hyperbole matching hyperbole, but, even without the exaggerated reactions, I stand by my comment that it was PC OTT, and (as you didn't comment on), dangerous in the same way as the little boy who cried wolf...

I'm often not quite sure if you are serious, because your tone is so often snide and sneering, however, I would have thought one sign of independent thought was not taking on board the whole ideological baggage of one particular stream of political thought just because one subscibes in a general way to it. I think the jazz hands thing is utterly absurd. On the other hand I think some views held by those of the right and far right around the areas of sexuality and homosexuality - not to mention economics and social policy generally, as despicable. 'Singing from the same page' does not mean subscribing to the policy book!
