Those were the good old days. They've got to keep up with the soccer fans down there. Although, since they disassociated the local soccer clubs from their ethnic roots, the fighting has been a little less violent. I remember when I was at school in Victoria during the 80's and you'd regularly hear of knife fights and molotov cocktails being thrown after games. It was always the fucking Yugoslavs who were the most over the top.

Actually, those recent minor drunken spats are unusual. At most AFL games, crowd violence is pretty low. Even from Collingwood fans...

Totally disagree. Go to any international rugby match. No separation and no alcohol restriction. Even during a Scotland England game many a dram would shared between rival fans and not single problem. The key is mentality. Plain and simple.

Very much agree. Billions of draughts of beer are consumed at sporting events, and rarely are there beer-induced instances of violence.
