^^^ Exactly.

The US military has boasted how it can identify an underground enemy bunker and then send a bomb down with such precisiion that it will drop right inside its air shaft to blow it up from the inside. It has published videos to prove this too. Now it seems to have problems identifying a fucking above ground hospital in broad daylight that has never been moved since it was built years ago, or its bombs are not that smart after all. So, what are we to make of this? I call utter bullshit.

Well, you should probably get used to the Muslim solution to that problem: "Who cares what they look like, I just fuck them through that hole in the back of the burka and never have to look at them anyway. Could be a boy or a girl for that matter, who knows and who cares...if it was good enough for Mohammed, it's good enough for me.

Burkas are the Islamic version of the public toilet Glory Hole.

Um, they can identify an underground bunker. They can't necessarily tell what exactly is going on inside that bunker at the moment they stuff a bunker-buster down the air shaft. Neither can they necessarily tell from 30,000 feet (or 200 miles) what's going on inside a previously abandoned and unmarked government building in a war zone. We presume that underground bunkers in war zones are valid military targets and we bomb them. We do the same to ANY structure which harbors enemy combatants, with the exception of marked and identified medical facilities, populated civilian housing areas and some other places used by civilians for ordinary activities...unless those facilities are also being used by enemy combatants who are using the civilian population as human shields, in which case we might hit them and we might not, depending on the nature of the threat involved.

That's why there are international rules of war that strongly encourage that medical facilities be prominently and uniformly marked, precisely to prevent the sort of thing that happened here. DWB failed to properly mark the facility and they failed to communicate the fact that the facility was being used as a hospital, something that could have been done with a simple phone call or email.

So blame Doctors Without Borders because it is they who royally fucked up and got themselves and a bunch of wounded killed.

Ahem.. the purpose of having military intelligence is to not have to rely on satellite pictures and self-reporting from your enemy to identify targets. The point, my dear sir, is your military is an idiot.

And when you can't get such intelligence, or the intelligence is wrong, or perhaps falsified deliberately for the purposes of inducing military actions that will kill civilians in order to generate propaganda opportunities, is the military obliged to simply stand around impotently doing nothing to prosecute the war?

War is hell. Shit happens. Young men die. So do civilians. Best then not to start a war because the blame lies with those who did, and that isn't the US, it's the Muslim fanatics who are happy to sacrifice women, children and the wounded to gain the propaganda advantage.

Fucking barbarians, one and all.

Though the aid group repeatedly said that there had been no fighting around the hospital, the building was hit over and over again, despite the fact that Doctors Without Borders sent the US military the precise GPS coordinates so the hospital could be avoided.

“When the bombing started, we were indeed in contact with military representatives in both Kabul and in Washington, but the bombing continued for another half hour to 40 minutes after those initial calls were made,” says Hawkins.

The hospital is the only facility of its kind in the northeast region of Afghanistan, and Hawkins says the compound where it sits was “precisely targeted,” adding that the intensive care unit and the emergency room were hit the worst. For four years, Doctors Without Borders has been using this facility to provide free high level trauma care to civilians in the area.

Of course it was not a mistake. Anyone arguing to the contrary is either talking ex recto out of sheer ideological prejudice or intentionally lying.

Sure it was, it's just that calling off an airstrike from Washington takes time. Next time mark your hospital properly and don't harbor terrorists in the same facility.
