Why should that bother you? It's explained why there are many humanoids.
But with anything it's about being able to empathise with what's happening.. hell it was even written by an atheist!
The explanation for the prevalence of humanoids in the galaxy was one of the shittiest things they every did in any episode of TNG.

"Oh, we were so lonely and we didn't want any other races to be lonely, so we seeded worlds with our DNA so you'd all have that in common at least." (badly paraphrased because I can't be arsed to verbatim the shite) Thing is, the DNA-seeded worlds still went through a process of evolution from unicellular to multi-cellular to sentient. So, just as we cannot produce viable offspring with an asparagus despite our common ancestry, neither should we be able to produce viable offspring with a Vulcan or a Klingon. Also, it still doesn't justify the prevalence of bipeds with forehead vaginas because life on Earth is primarily non-bipedal isn't it? So even with our single world to extrapolate from, common ancestry explains exactly none of the issues the script writers for that episode tried to make it explain.
Fucking twats.
Loved the show, though.

Just thought I'd add the obligatory
Star Trek, in all it's incarnations, suck scaly Klingon balls.
Now what's this about a "goddidit" ending to
Quantum Leap?

I never saw 'til the end.

Oh, and Channel 4 are having a Star Trek movie weekend. You have been warned.

In the end we found out that all that jumping around was God's fault, he was having what's-his-name clean up the messes.

(Stupid, beyond stupid, but it must have been the only ending they could find for that lame show.)

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

They hinted at that all the way through though too. As he always had some moral/ethical task to perform (often with a time limit) while he was in each person. It was stupid enough to be something out of Highway to Heaven, but it was still a great show.

TNG had some great individual episodes and some of the best Trek characters, but overall it always felt very sterile to me, and it seemed they solved far too many problems by reversing the phase polarity of the forward pulse dylithium nacelle matrices. Or something. Later seasons of DS9 were in many ways superior to much of TNG because they started to drive individual episodes from a larger story arc, so it became something more than a loosely related collection of short stories. All series after DS9 lost me within the first few episodes, and I've heard nothing in retrospect to convince me to go watch them again. Nor did last summer's big-budget Trek "reboot" movie win me over... it wasn't Armageddon/Independence Day horrible as an SF film, but it didn't leave me eagerly awaiting the next installment, either.
Me, I'm re-watching the entire 5 season run of Babylon 5 now that it's available to stream on Netflix and wondering why so many people are prattling on about vampire movies when they should be asking if you're on Team Londo or Team G'kar.

All the movies on film 4 this weekend, 6 and 8 are about the only other watchable ones, unless you like San Fran in the 80's.

The one with the whales? I used to love that as a kid.
They're a bit ropey to look at now. I lolled a few times at this one. It's not over yet though.
It was funny when Spock said, "The laws of logic dictate that the the need of the many outweigh the needs of a few"

Logic fail!
Philosophical imperatives of moral precepts have nothing to do with "logic".
