People are having fun with the notion that the army commanded by George Washington 'took over the airports,' but Trump's speechwriters also apparently don't know the difference between the War of Independence and the War of 1812, during the latter of which the defence of Fort McHenry took place ('under the rocket's red glare').

See remarks beginning around the 43:25 mark, if you can stand to listen to Trump mangling history.

A great crowd! Bigger than Obama 4th of July!
President Donald Trump noted the “great crowd” that attended the Salute to America celebration honoring the United States military on the Fourth of July.
“A great crowd of tremendous Patriots this evening, all the way back to the Washington Monument,” he tweeted.

Attendees with tickets were admitted into the area around the Lincoln Memorial and half-way down the reflecting pool around 3 p.m. ET. Heavy rain commenced around 3:30 p.m. ET. The rain lasted for approximately two hours before abating before the celebration began at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Despite the rain — the entire area around the reflecting pool was packed by the time the celebration started.

Trump is turning into Reagan:

But Reagan's fabrications also included whoppers about conflict zones reminiscent of those put forth by Williams and Clinton. During Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir's November 1983 visit to the U.S., Reagan told Shamir that during his service in the U.S. Army film corps, he and fellow members of his unit personally shot footage of the Nazis' concentration camps as they were liberated. Reagan would tell this story again to others, including Holocaust survivor Simon Wiesenthal. But Reagan was never present at the camps' liberation. Instead, he spent the war in Culver City, California, where he processed footage from the liberation of the camps.

A wing and a prayer

In the story, which J. David Woodard describes in his book "The America that Reagan Built," a B-17 bomber came under fire in the course of a European bombing raid in World War II. With the plane rapidly losing altitude, the B-17 commander ordered his soldiers to evacuate the bomber. When all but one young soldier had left the bomber, the commander gripped the remaining soldier's hand and said, "Never mind, son, we'll ride it down together."

Nelson examined all 434 Medal of Honor cases and could not find any citation of the event Reagan described. But one reader told Nelson that the story bore similarities to a scene from the World War II-era film "A Wing and a Prayer," while another claimed to have read it in the Reader's Digest. White House Press Secretary Larry Speakes had his own response.

“If you tell the same story five times, it’s true," he said.

'Cause he's on a secret mission
Headquarters just radioed in
He left his baby at the dancehall
While the band plays on, some sweet song

And on a mission over China
The lady opens up her arms
The flowers bloom where you have placed them
And the lady smiles, just like mom

Angels' wings are icing over
McDonnell Douglas olive drab
They bear the names of our sweethearts
And the captain smiles, as we crash
'Cause in the mind of Ronald Reagan
Wheels they turn and gears they grind
Buildings collapse in slow motion
And trains collide, everything is fine
Everything is fine
Everything is fine

It was cold that stormy night. But, he hoisted his diaper and manned the helm. His men marveled at his courage, crossing the Danube. He cried out - Onward Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, & Vixen. We charge forth into the Blitzkrieg to defeat Napoleon at the Bulge. #TrumpDoesHistory

Yeah, but we all know he meant to say 'ports' and just made a faux pas! He doesn't really think the revolutionary army were being subjected to attrition from the skies because every US school kind knows that His Majesties Royal Blip Squadron had actually used up all their coal against a relentless Atlantic headwind that had blown it back to Greenland weeks before the start of hostilities.

Can Trump sign an executive order for the citizenship question?
They are hard to fight: Congress has the power to overturn an executive order by passing legislation that invalidates it. ... In the case of the former, the president retains the power to veto such a decision; however, the Congress may override a veto with a two-thirds majority to end an executive order.

I really think it's time the Democrats got serious about politics. Where did #theresistance go? Seems that most the the official opposition can do is treat Republicans and Trump like naughty kids having a tantrum that they can placate with a roll of the eyes,

Protecting the precious fossil fuel industry--MAGA™!

'President Trump Slaps Tariffs on Solar Panels in Major Blow to Renewable Energy'
In the biggest blow he’s dealt to the renewable energy industry yet, President Donald Trump decided on Monday to slap tariffs on imported solar panels.

The U.S. will impose duties of as much as 30 percent on solar equipment made abroad, a move that threatens to handicap a $28 billion industry that relies on parts made abroad for 80 percent of its supply. Just the mere threat of tariffs has shaken solar developers in recent months, with some hoarding panels and others stalling projects in anticipation of higher costs. The Solar Energy Industries Association has projected tens of thousands of job losses in a sector that employed 260,000.

The tariffs are just the latest action Trump has taken that undermine the economics of renewable energy. The administration has already decided to pull the U.S. out of the international Paris climate agreement, rolled back Obama-era regulations on power plant-emissions and passed sweeping tax reforms that constrained financing for solar and wind. The import taxes, however, will prove to be the most targeted strike on the industry yet.
